There is much to say about this book. It’s the longest book I’ve ever read and I simply don’t have the words to express how deeply this book affected me at times.

One of the best books I have read in a long time and it might be my new favorite.  Such a powerful story of a young women figuring out who she wants to be while discovering where she comes from.  The book traces the lineage of one family all the way back to when they first arrived in American and their Native American roots as well.  This story is captivating, heartbreaking, triumphant and made me laugh out loud many times.  The writing is so beautiful.  I highly recommend making the commitment to read this one!

It’s not often that I add to my list of all time favorite books, and the list is a short one. This book, without question, is one of the most incredible books I’ve ever read.

A challenging but important read in the history of the black experience in the United States in this historic fiction. The violence in women and overt violence and abuse of humans. Numerous rapes, child sexual abuse murders, racism of course, slavery.. It's all very difficult to listen to on an audio book or read in this 600+ pages tome.
