I'm really disappointed.
I felt no connection with the characters and I found no development of them.

The ending of this seemed rather abrupt to me, and a little disappointing.

I would LOVE to read more in this world of the nameless and magic. What a unique world Adara created.

this was such a frustrating book to read. i was excited to read it because i've liked other books by this author before and the premise for this one was so unique, but ultimately it was very unsatisfying.

to start with, the concept of the nameless in this book is great. it's unique and such an interesting take on magic that i kept reading even though i didn't care for the characters. one thing this author is great at is building unique settings for her stories. and the whole idea of not having a name if you can't use magic, needing magic to bind a nameless person together and keep their very selves from ripping apart at the seams, it's such a great idea. there's so much room to play around with different stories in this world.

but i absolutely hated the characters in this book. every time i thought i understood one of them something would change and i'd be more confused than i was before.

we start off with julian and andré binding blue storm (yep, blue storm is his name) and he basically becomes their live in sex slave/house pet. julian is very enthusiastic about it but andré seems to either avoid him or give him nasty looks, like he's disappointed in him or doesn't want him there. and i figured that was mostly jealousy.
but then julian would do these heinous things to blue storm, like making him stand up all night in one place, using magic to bind him in place and disorienting him, all because he dared to take a little initiative in the bedroom. no actual harm done, but julian had to punish him like it was something grievous. and that isn't even the worst of what julian did to him. the venom he spat about blue storm was what really got to me. talking about him like he wasn't a person, didn't deserve love, telling him directly to his face that his feelings were fake because nameless didn't have feelings, calling him a manipulating liar. it was too much to forgive.

and each time julian punished blue storm andré's personality would come out a bit more. he started to be more obvious in the way he cared about blue storm, as a person rather than just as a nameless. because he saw him as a person when nobody else did. but there were also a lot of things andré couldn't give blue storm. despite being the only one in his life that treated him decently, andré still couldn't take care of him on his own.
and blue storm, ugh. i hate that name, but at the same time it made for a compelling element to the story so i'm not going to complain about that too much. but i hated the way this guy was characterized. he'd been tormented, abused, brutalized, and tortured for years by his masters who temporarily gave him a name and saved him from the agony of being ripped apart. literal hell. and the people who were his saviors only rescued him to torment him in a different way. it's very out of the frying pan and into the fire.
instantly this made me hate julian 10x more, but it also made me start to hate this book when the characterization took a shift and blue storm went from the guy who was doing everything his masters wanted in efforts to please them and hopefully get to keep his name for a while to the guy who actually was manipulating them to get what he wanted from them. and this shift happened so quick it was like whiplash.

i honestly couldn't blame blue storm for never wanting to be around julian again after everything he'd done to him, but instead blue storm was made out to be the manipulator causing julian to be jealous and petty because he was afraid of losing andré. i hated it. hated it. hated it.
it made the magic of the ending feel so frustratingly bleak and i was angry because if julian wasn't julian i probably would have loved it!
i would have loved blue storm's renaming and the way he brought andré and julian back together again,
but since i hated julian so much it didn't land right.

This book is not for everyone. Read the warnings and take heed.

This book was dark, twisted, and complicated. There were moments of sweetness and tenderness, and there were moments of anguish and fear. Blue Storm is a magicless slave in a world where he cannot survive without being dependent on others who have magic. From the moment Blue Storm was born, he was destined for a life that was unfair and cruel. His owners, Andre and Julian, become his world, but they also become his tormentors. It’s a dark and disturbing book, but I loved it. I also love dark stories and kinky sex. The sex is this book was fantastic – it was very heavy on the D/s, poly, and other kinky, delicious elements.

Overall Rating: 5 Stars. I loved everything about this book. The writing was wonderful and the worldbuilding was incredible. The characters were intriguing and interesting. The sex was hot and intense. This book was perfect for me and I adored it.
