Lovely, thought provoking, beautifully written. I love these sojourns to the past in England. Tensions of class, race, war all swirling in the air, with everyday lives and loves, trials and triumphs.

This one will join my other favorite Maisie novels. The case had a thousand twists and turns and I loved everyone of them. Maisie's past revisits her as she plans for her future. And this quote struck me in a very personal way ...

"... Leaving that which you love breaks your heart open. But you will find a jewel inside ... And it will be the making of you. If you will allow it to be."

How very true I know this to be.

Another favorite quote from this book is, "Doesn't death always change a life?" A simple yet powerful truth that I'd never quite considered.

I love this series. This was another terrific installment.

My loyalty to Maisie has been slipping the last few books, but either it has been long enough since I read one, or she finally wooed me back in this one. I am delight to see Maisie mustering her wits and trying something different at the end of this work. She needs to explore the world instead of doing all the naval-gazing she has recently done. London will go on without her. However, I absolutely, positively do not want her to marry James. I think he is all wrong for her. I want the return of Richard Stratton who I believe is best for her. Either that or she should skip the whole marriage thing. No James!

Loved it!
