I love to listen to these mysteries in the car. The problem is that it's hard to get them in order. I skipped way, way forward with this and regret doing so. This is a series that can be read out of order, but it's not the same experience. The character development and small sub-plots that make them rich and fascinating also create a sense of connection that is lost when read out of order.
Of course this has nothing to do with my review. I like these books immensely. I feel they are written with the idea that the reader is intelligent and capable of following along without a problem. I appreciate that so much. It's not formulaic (as far as a mystery series goes) and that is its beauty.

I can't believe this is already the tenth book in this series. The heroine has grown but never gotten less complex, and this book sets up some possible new directions for Maisie (without giving away the plot). In this new case Maisie is drawn into the growing Indian population in London; Winspear's descriptions of saris and Indian food added a nice flavor to the reading.
