This book was LONG, but also somewhat deserved to be so as it was quite an epic tale - a tale of the Holocaust, and WWII, but also of a person and a family. The personal angle managed to capture, with horrible poignancy, the horrors of the war and cruelty and prejudice that ran rampant within it, but Orringer also managed to weave in moments of love, and hope, amidst all the bleakness. A really well done story.
