probably the best of the series. excellent character work and great art. some who liked the casual nature of the first volumes may dislike that this is more plot heavy.

Fraction, Aja and company gave us an excellent run that goes out on a high note. I'm sad to see this series end.

A little shaky at the beginning (I don't know how I feel about the "Winterfriends" bit) but all in all this turned out to be a banger of a finale for this arc! I feel like it wrapped up all the storylines, small and large, very well, while still balancing out Clint's past and future. I'm SO glad a certain character showed up in the last issue; those final two pages especially just made me grin like an idiot. Lastly, I think the issue that deals primarily with Clint's deafness was a standout! I don't know much about d/Deaf culture or sign language, so I can't speak to the accurateness of it, but the way it was done made me feel more in Clint's shoes than I would have had the panels/speech bubbles/etc been done like a typical comic issue.
All in all a truly memorable graphic novel!

Oh my gosh, this book was AMAZING!!! I'll be putting a lot of spoilers below because I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but seriously, this was the coolest way for Matt Fraction to end his run. I'm really excited to pick up All-New Hawkeye now and see where the series goes. I think I have officially been converted to a lifelong Hawkeye fan. Also, good dog, Lucky. Good dog. :)

SpoilerReturn of deaf!Hawkeye! The dog's NOT DEAD! Kate is back! Her dad is a complete douchenugget and that's half the reason I want to read All-New Hawkeye! Also, I was pissed at Barney for all of about two seconds until I saw Simone and then I was all, "Alright, fine, take the money you doofus ;P" One small thing that in no way reflects upon the quality of the book: I wish I knew sign. Or that there was some sort of reference for the signs they used in the book. I understand they couldn't have put it in the comic books themselves, but it would have been a nice addition to the trade, sort of a bonus for all us fans that wished they knew what they were saying :)

I'll say it again, this book was amazing. I was very impressed :)

A perfect end to a (possibly) perfect comic series.

Chapters in sign language or in Saturday morning cartoon style are inspired.

Something about this volume, this volume specifically just hit different. I loved it so much.

Whatever happens to me tonight? However bad it gets?

I had it comin’.

I attribute my deep enjoyment of this volume to two main things:

The first is seeing a huge portion of Clint’s backstory and also his brother coming into this picture. I adore sibling dynamics and they both are messy, complicated, and funny human beings. Barney is one I hope we get to see a bit more of in the coming volumes - and I’m glad he gets something nice out of all this ugly.

The second has to be the representation of deafness and Deaf culture. The frames of Clint struggling to hear put in text form? That’s genuinely what it feels like (speaking from my own hard of hearing perspective). Confusion and trying to lip read and still needing to guess at words with context. It’s draining and difficult and tiring, which you can see in Clint’s demeanor. The signing drawings are so well made and I actually understood them with my very rudimentary vocabulary. It’s all so elegantly portrayed on the page and ugh. It is very clear that they put a lot of time and effort here and I appreciated it immensely.

Also now he’s in the aids and I... there’s something about seeing characters like you, there really is.

Beautiful and wonderful. Really reads like a prestige indie comic, not a book based on a mainstream superhero. Pulpy but noir.

What a fantastic storytelling device using those sign language panels and balloons without texts! This volume saw Clint Barton challenged to his limit. Really, he could have been a super soldier with everything that has happened and he still could aim a bow and arrow. I'll just sum up this volume or this entire series really, with tha panels by the end showing Clint and Kate shooting arrows at the same time and the target zooms in. No idea who hit where they could have hit the bullseye as a metaphor for them both reaching their matured selves, their focused selves. They probably did. And Lucky is still alive!
