5/5 stars!

This book is defiantly not for the faint of heart. I had a small idea what I was in for before as I see this book is actually super popular on TikTok. It’s always on peoples most difficult to read lists. I’m not normally into really gruesome books. I normally stick with Nora Robert’s or YA sort of thriller/horrors but it really intrigued me. The scariest possible thought is that the people closest to us could be monsters and we wouldn’t even know it.

Pretty Girls is a book that lingers with you. Characters you won’t forget and moments that will forever be ingrained in my memory. Some of the best writing I have ever read. The perfect slow build up to the slow and painful realisation of the truth. Paul Scott is the worst character that has ever been in a book, I have never read someone that is pure evil like him. And you do now what? There is people like Paul Scott in real life and that is the most terrifying part of Pretty Girls.

Towards the end is definitely where it gets very difficult to read. To be honest anywhere after the middle I found myself on the edge of my seat or bawling with tears. For anyone who wants to read this just don’t get fooled because near the end is basically what everyone on booktok/booktube is talking about. It’s rough and I’m super sensitive so I would defiantly make sure you are mentally prepared but its worth getting through the tough parts for the pay off.

I love Claire and Lydia’s relationship as well. I actually loved Lydia. I found myself really relating to her even though Iv never been a drug addict whose sister went missing and my family hasn’t abandoned me and I’m also not 42 years old. But I can really feel her pain. Her disappointment with herself and her struggle with her weight and her demons. But also, Claire someone who has always seen a shrinking violet, a pushover finally proves herself and even surprises herself with her willpower. Karin has written such strong female characters.

A standing ovation for Karin Slaughter. A very real book with tons of action and drama. But It feels so real. Corrupt police departments, violence against women, snakes in the grass, substance abuse, SA so many sensitive but important subjects that the author has dealt with so well. I’m blown away and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I’ve heard great things about this author and it lived up to the hype!! Great thriller with countless twists and turns!

I knew I read this book before but I just didn’t remember it that well and whew. This book is just so good. Disturbing so check your trigger warnings. I couldn’t put it down and came to a point where I fell asleep last night and had a nightmare and blame this book for it. Such a rollercoaster. Also. I never hated a character more than Paul.
