This would have been amazing as a full novel rather than it shortened but listen I am here for it!

+1 great character backstory, I enjoyed reading about Coriane and how she organically came to the throne
+1 consistent character depiction
+1 I didn't know Cal's grandfather was gay so that's cool; however, the representation to the court wasn't all that great
+0.5 similar romantic plot as to what the books in the series gave, it would have been nice to see a bit of variance
-1 we already know Coriane goes crazy, driven so by Elara, so this seemed a bit unnecessary

I really like that we as readers get a chance to see the back stories of characters not actually present in the regular books of this series. Very cool and informative! Poor Coriane!
I enjoyed this read, though I feel that the world building is quite lacking. This is marked as a prequel, however, I feel a lot of the world building is alluded to rather than made obvious. Such as the silver blood and red blood system never being explained.
Despite this, it was an enjoyable read. I may come back to update this review after reading the other short and the first installment in this series. Until then!

This novella is kinda sad, but it's nice to know more about Coriane and what happened to her.
So sad! Hard to read about so much evil in someone, and their willingness to destroy the happiness of others.
I wasn’t into this story until about the halfway point. I liked that it was backstory about Coriane, but it just wasn’t exciting me.
Until that ending. I had to read the last few paragraphs twice. That was so beautifully done. Definitely turned my rating upside down.
