What an introduction to Brandon Sanderson! This was such a solid story on its own while also paving the way for what’s to come. I love that the fantasy elements were pretty unique and I really enjoyed the characters.

Wow now I understand the hype around the Sanderlanche 😅 The book holds a steady pace throughout until the last ~150 pages when everything happens all at once and you're hanging by the edge of your seat.

Mistborn is a mix of Star Wars + Dune vibes. The magic is a bit hard to follow so please use the appendix at the back. Although this is the first book of a trilogy, the ending did wrap up nicely enough to be a standalone so you don't feel committed.

Kelsier is an escaped man determined to overthrow the Lord Ruler. He recruits a teenage girl, Vin, into his plans. Both are Mistborn, meaning they can use all types of metals for varying powers. The rest of the crew are Mistlings, which means that they can only use one type of metal for a specific type of power. Of all the magic/fantasy that occurs in this world, the one thing that I struggled with believing was Vin's quick advancement in mastering her powers. She went from not knowing anything to doing it all in no time. And that was super annoying.

Intriguing beginning and a nice writing style in overall.

The plot got static in the middle (so I even abandoned the book for a while), but it got fixed with the epic and twists in the end.

I really hope the movie production (frozen now) will continue and end-up in a release one day, as it would be really nice to see the magical system, characters and the world on the screen! (guessing the Inquisitors and Mistwraiths visualisations will be most challenging
