This gem of a MG book has been sitting in my school library for a year. I picked it up when I found out that our Senior Primary students have been paired with author Dianna Wolfer for the Author PenPals programme. Immediately, I know severla kids (and my own mother!) who will love it. Told by a dog desperate to be reunited with the little girl who saved her from being drowned. "No-one wants a runt!" This chronicles the times WWII came to Australia, particularly northern WA. Lots of anecdotes that were a surprise to me - like Dutch people being evacuated to WA from Indonesia. I am keen to put this in the right student hands.
