I've only read one second-chance-marriage book before (Love Her Or Lose Her by Tessa Bailey) and I was so glad to find another!

Alessandra finally stands up for herself and doesn't even give Dom another chance at first – she wants a divorce. He had to grovel *really* hard and the character development he went through in this book is so satisfying to read. He thinks Alessandra will leave him if he loses all he's worked for but really, she'd take him back any day, even at his poorest, if only he really cared for her again 😭 had me close to tears

I think the plot gets a bit messy towards the end, it's probably something we'll get more about in the next books and Dom almost had a shitty moment again (i was like: 🧐🧐🧐) but other than that, I loved this so much.

Not my favorite of the series. Alessandra files for divorce after her husband Dominic works through their 10th anniversary. When he's finally hit with reality, Dom realizes his wife has been unhappy for years, and this is a surprise only to him. As he struggles to win Alessandra back and find a work/life balance to prove to his now ex-wife she really does matter to him, his foster brother Roman appears after decades of no contact that began when Roman was arrested as a teen. While Dom and Alessandra do love each other and can't keep away, like his friends in the first two books, Dom can't take no for an answer. The main difference in this one is that Alé spends much of the book trying to find herself outside her marriage.

Unfortunately, it really feels like at the end of the book, she just goes back. Dom is much more conciencious of his own habits, but Alessandra never really finds herself outside of him which wws disappointing

some things were a bit predictable but this series…oh my god. i expected more groveling from dom, although i am very glad him and ále got their hea :)

This was a strong redemption arc like any good second chance romance and the pain of the early chapters really hit me in my feels. But there just wasn't enough depth to Dom's backstory and why they let it get as bad as it did in the beginning. The secondary character arc felt unnecessary to me.

Ok this is my least favorite of the series. This one just didn't hit as hard as the others. That doesn't mean that I didn't like it but it just didn't click with me. I struggled a bit with the story and especially with Dominic. That man pissed me off so many times. What I did LOVE about the book was Alessandra. She is everything and anything a strong FMC shoukd be. She is a powerful, independent, stubborn, confident, strong, witty, and bad**s woman and business woman that just deserves so much love from the audience. Watching her growth and her being able to learn that she has to put herself first was just *cheff's kiss*. Dominic..... I struggled with him a bit. At the end you can see him being very caring, loving, and thoughful but I needed more from him. Now, flashback Dominic I loved but current Dominic not so much and I think it was because they contradicted each other so much personality wise which made me doubt how the hell he changed so much. Readers can tell that he loves Ale so much but at the same time it is so frustrating because you can see that in the flashbacks but when it moves to current times it's like he forgot (he got used to her being there) that he didn't appreciate it and it was so annoying. The groveling, it didn't hit as hard as maybe Dante's or Kai's BUT that type of groveling doesn't fit Dominic so I get why it was a different type of groveling that the rest. He knows Ale so well and he used that to his advantage which in my opinion was a great addition to the plot and the groveling. His groveling wasn't about doing big gestures or some extravagant declarations because that wasn't what their marriage was lacking in, he just needed to show her that he could put her first above all and that's what he did and that's how he groveled. Their connection was always incredibly strong as well as their love, it was just something of attention (which is completely valid on Ale's side). Throughout the book I was rooting more for Ale than Dominic, but I was glad that they ended in a happy way. The book was just lacking something (i dont know what) that I think would have made it a bit more entertaining because in some points it felt flat or boring. Maybe making the book shorter would have helped move things along more smoothly but that's just my opinion. Overall, I liked the book just not like the others in the series. Would I read it again? Yes

This series has been a blast so far. Not one has disappointed me but this one was an instant five stars for me. I never thought I'd love a marriage in trouble storyline but apparently, I do. This one for some reason made me feel a lot of emotions. When Alessandra had that breakdown and told Dominic that she wants a divorce because Dom hasn't been caring her for the past years, I felt that. If we take people for granted, it just hurts more once they're gone. Also, please boys, never forget an anniversary. It's just that one date that you have to remember, nothing more.

Then there was the past and present timeline which I just loved. It showed how Dom was head over heels in love with Ale. So it was pretty understandable where Dom was coming from, although, what he did to Ale is not justifiable. I just can't ignore how Dom really just straight out traded his work to win out Ale. That's really how we knew that he knew he messed up big time. He really showed Ale that he wants him back and he's willing to do everything within his power to win her back. And that's literally what he did. I just can't get over that. Maybe because I'm semi-relating with Ale and that's why this book just hit differently but I just love their relationship. I'm glad things worked out. I'm sorry for Dom's brother but damn he also did sacrifice for Dom.

I'm also super glad to have caught up with the series just in time for King of Sloth! Also, can we just take a moment to thank Ana for Jules and Josh' cameo? Thank you, Ana, for bringing back my favorite Twisted couple!

My summary: On the cusp of their ten year wedding anniversary, Dominic and Alessandra Davenport seem to have it all. The ambitious and gorgeous billionaire Dominic is the so-called King of Wall Street. The stunning and smart Alessandra has her wealthy husband, penthouse, and has started a thriving business of her own. Once college sweethearts, Alessandra now, however, feels like Dominic is married more to his work than to her. Tired of feeling neglected and unwanted, Alessandra leaves, but Dominic is devastated and determined to do anything to win her back.

My thoughts:

I read this book in December 2023. I really enjoyed it and, overall, found it to be really sweet. Then I saw some audio snippets that Ana Huang posted from the audiobook and I just had

to listen to it.

When I read the book, Alessandra's melancholy and Dominic's desperation punched me right in the feels. Ana Huang does a fantastic job of making you empathize with both Alessandra and Dominic throughout the story. My heart broke for both of them.

Listening to it, though, was quite a different experience and I’m overall pretty fascinated by just how different it was for me. The audiobook made me feel like Alessandra was the selfish one and I felt terribly for Dominic. It came across that he was so hardworking for *their* future and she was just whiny and left him anyway and then rebuffed all his attempts at reconciliation.

I struggled a bit with the narrators in this one. I think the way Alessandra’s character came across so differently in the audiobook is due to the female narrator’s intonation throughout it. I get that Alessandra’s character is quite melancholy through the entirety of the book, but she was just SO depressed sounding that listening to her was rough—especially since her portion is roughly half of the eight and a half hour audiobook.

This has the same male narrator, Teddy Hamilton, as Rosie Danan’s The Roommate that I just listened to recently (as well as apparently a TON of other audiobooks). He comes across as, I don’t know, a little too California-surfer sounding to me to be a great fit as Dominic’s character. He’s not my favorite but he is definitely better than average for male narrators, so I did enjoy his narration.

Also, Chapter 18 = still solid gold.

Whether the book or audiobook, this is an overall good message for those of us that have to work a lot to remember that your job is your job but it’s important to put your marriage first.

And even though, like Dominic, you may feel like you're one bad decision at work away from losing it all, it's more important to put family first.
