Dicey's Song

I read this Newbery Award-winning book, second in the Tillerman series, growing up; it continues the story of Dicey and her siblings, Sammy, James, and Maybeth as they form a tight familial bond with their Gram and make new friends in spunky Mina, sensitive Jeff, and kind Mr. Lingerle.

Still love this family and their journey through the challenges they face while striving to remain true to each other. It's especially nice to see the book tackle how the world reacts to various differences: in learning ability, body weight, race, finances, etc.

This book tugs at every one of my heart strings. I love the reality and the insecurity of it. I love that it brings up the puberty journey but not it a cliche way. So glad these books are standing the test of time.

loved it as a young adult, love it still

Aaaaahhhhh... Cynthia Voigt brings me right back to 13 years old. Amazing books recommended to me by an amazing librarian!

Darcy is growing up. Realistic and appropriate romance, poverty, difference, death in the family, mental disorders, trauma, family, and friendship are themes.

Forced to read

Another classic of children's literature starring a feisty independent teenage girl and her equally feisty and independent grandmother. This is the story of two strong women as they rebuild their lives and family while dealing with abandonment, loss and the everyday difficulties faced by young kids. A beautiful and understated YA novel that many adults would probably also enjoy.

We ahd to read this book for school and it was so boring, no one liked it.
