This could have been a perfect four star summer romance, except for the last 20% which made me very angry.
Thing is, I can’t even get into it in my review because it would spoil everything especially due to the Now and Then framing.
I’m getting ahead of myself.
Percy spent her childhood holidays by the glittering summers on the lakeshore where she befriended the two boys next door. The class difference is huge, the life experience and life ambitions are a gulf; but this was pure and sweet and right.
However, ten years into the future and Percy is living in the city, not a fan of her life and keeping everyone an arms-length away from her broken heart.
Invited back to the island for a funeral, Percy must face the past, her present, and what really happened to end Every Summer.
The writing was addictive. The friendship and romance was sweet and authentic. The banter and deeper talks between the boys and Percy made me laugh. The conversations between her parents and the neighbour’s mother is so supportive.
The vibes are there.
And then you find out what happened.
Ugh.
However, I will be reading more from her.

This story reminded me very much of Christina Lauren's Love and Other Words with a dash of TSITP. An easy and devourable summer read that alternates between timelines that span over the course of 15 years. Though I'm not a fan of the miscommunication and crossing of relational lines, it didn't seem too far fetched. I could understand how vulnerable and hurt all the characters were in the past though it doesn't excuse behavior. I'm looking forward to reading Charlie's story in One Golden Summer.
