I love everything Kennedy Ryan writes, mostly because she’s just a dang good storyteller, but also because she especially writes women rich and full and nuanced and layered. This one was particularly good and I loved Canon, the male interest.

“We are artists... When there is no joy to be found, we have the power in our hands, the will of our souls, to make it.”

Singers, dancers, actors, and all the behind the scenes people that make these things possible, they often live lives out of balance, with frenetic energy to prepare, and specific paced energy when onstage or during a take, and weird gaps when it's others' part of the show, or between gigs.  What happens when family just doesn't understand?  What if the family has other deep relational fissures?  What if something else comes up out of the blue and knocks thing off course, off kilter, a complete derailment of plans or relationships?  Is that job, the role that will change everything, is that worth it?  Is that chemistry worth exploring?  What if everything explodes?

And yet, even if this has discouraged you about your future, your prospects, remember that sometimes family shows up even before you call out that you need them.
