This book is the case of being plopped right in the middle of the road. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't amazing either. I didn't DNF it so it earned at least 2 stars there.  I finished it in one sitting, but I have a feeling if I had set it down, I wouldn't have picked it up again.

There were some interesting things about this book, such as the fae being dark and tricky. It set a dark tone to the book. I also found the "Beauty and the Beast" aspect slightly interesting even though it was almost painfully predictable. I don't know if it's being marketed as a retelling, but I didn't pick it up for that.

So the things that were not too great: The pacing was too fast. There was no time to connect with or get to know the characters. That also means the character development was practically non-existent in my opinion. There was no romantic or sexual tension built, so when the inevitable happened, it didn't feel like a satisfying moment because everything was rushed. The plot itself was fine. There wasn't anything original about it, however, I was mildly surprised by
the betrayal of King Drayce

I do think this author has potential. I noticed she has several other books out, however, they were all published in 2020. It seems like she's pushing out books pretty fast and maybe they could use a little more time...? Regardless, I won't be continuing with this series.
