Honestly a bit hard to put into words why I didn't enjoy this book.
The story feels forced. The MC is forced to undergo three "trials" and you would expect those to take a while. But it seems as if they took a short two day trip around the land and finished everything. Major plot twists are revealed early on and thanks to that everything happens as you'd expect it to go.
It just felt so flat overall. Plot flat, character flat, everything flat.

BUT 2* because I loved the ruthlessness of the heroine. Let's just kill and burn a bunch of soldiers. And not think about it for chapters and question if it was the best decision. Nope she is just cool with it.

And ACOTAR. I hate comparing Fae books with ACOTAR, because SJM doesn't hold the rights on every Fae story. But the whole setup with the curse, the gease, the trials.. even that the male love interest controls shadows... Her becoming some special kind of strong Fae.. getting a ring from some monster as a test..

And my last issue.. the names. I read Darcy instead of Drayce (made it slightly awkward) and Neera instead of Neara... A "me issue" but Neara just doesn't flow. And didn't help that I read the book in one go till 5am.

I really wanted to like this book and it was a fast easy read. But just so flat.

This book was weird and corny. I would not suggest it to anyone. It was a bit creepy too.

I zoned out during most of this novel. It wasn’t my personal cup of tea as I found it extremely difficult to get into. Maybe I’ll attempt to read it again at a different date.

This was a new author to me, and I was excited to start reading this after reading the blurb. It was so much more than I expected. It was unique. I really enjoyed it.

So good!

I enjoyed this story SO much! I really enjoyed the world building as well as Drayce and Neara's relationship. I'm excited to see how this story continues in the next book!

Fae of Nightmares

This was sooo good!!! Theres a lot of deceit and trickery and underhandedness that make up this story. The world is fantastic and terrible. The creatures and fae that inhabit this world are scary, cruel. She has built in mythology that is very unique, I've never heard of or read of before. There is a dangerous quest that is just done so good, you swear it's you doing these things. I know this review is nowhere near what I wish to convey but I would implore you to read this. It is outstanding and chock full of the creepy fae you've only glimpsed at in old folklore tales. This also has the feel of a old world gothic within. There's a fair bit of violence but done well. This has to be one of the best books I've read all year. You've got to check this out. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book as we get to travel to the other courts. I loved both Drayce and Neara, they are both fearsome characters. Go get this!!!!
