Just as fun and magical as I remember. I listened to the audiobook and Kate Winslet was DIVINE. I cannot stop gushing about her performance to everyone I talk to. If you’re got a Spring Break road trip with some kids planned, have this audiobook with you. You won’t be disappointed.

This came highly recommended by all of my children. "Actually, you should read ANYTHING by Roald Dahl," my son said.

So ... off I go ...

The kids were right. Matilda is delightful. I may just have to read more of Roald Dahl.

“So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.”

Although this quote is paraphrased from the book, and included in a profound point of the film, it speaks to my kindred connection with Matilda.

Growing up she was the first character I saw in print or on screen that represented me. Although I was fortunate enough to have parents who were the complete opposite of the Wormwoods, I was not fortunate to escape the cruel forces that Matilda faces in her home and in her school. Like the journey of Miss Honey, it is a long journey beyond those memories that although eases never truly leaves behind.

As I told my boyfriend, my parents, my therapist, and my friends, I will continue to read this book throughout the course of my life. I know I will need to buy the printed copy, the type Matilda would have preferred I read but would not have judged the audio book version read by the splendid Kate Winslet. The paperback would dissolve over time due to being loved so much.

"A strange feeling of confidence and serenity swept over her and all of a sudden she found that she was frightened by nobody in the world....She felt fairly confident that with a great deal of practice and effort, she would succeed in the end."

This series of quotes have greatly remedied the current point of my timeline, which is in a spot where there is a lot to celebrate and a lot to feel and learn from. Matilda, and the other women in the book, continue to help me find my way as a woman. She is my hero, she is my inner friend.

This is one of my favorite books. It was nice to re-read as an adult.

Just not one of my favorites. I don't like the language used in the book and I kind of couldn't wait to get it over with.

Can’t believe I missed this completely as a child! A perfect children’s story
