Every time I read this book I find it absolutely delightful. It's one of my favorite childhood books and now I finally own a copy of it. The illustrations are beautiful in their simplicity and I simply adore the story of wonderful Matilda and sweet Miss Honey. I have always loved the relationship between a smart sensitive girl and a nice smart teacher and this book gives me this wonderful feeling of happiness each and every time I read it.

To me, this book is as extraordinary as it was when I first read it when I was 11 years old. I simply adore it. I enjoyed the movie too, but there is nothing like re-reading the book. I know people complain that a lot of things don't make sense, but this is a book for children. It is supposed not to make sense at points. It is magical. I love the way it gives such powers to a child. The story is humorous and witty. Matilda, Lavander, and Miss Honey are my favourite characters. Of course, I hate Matilda's parents. They are nothing like my parents, therefore I could never get how a family could treat their child this way, especially an extraordinary one. I knew there are such parents but it 's just never made sense to me how someone could bring a child to this world and never again care about it. I don't think it makes sense at all.

I believe this is a book every child should read. As for me...it fueled my want to be a teacher and made me feel empowered. I've always been a bookworm and much like Matilda, I'd read books that weren't children's books from a very young age. My mom and my teachers encouraged this habit of mine but most of my friends weren't interested in books. It was wonderful finding another child, even a fictional one, who read Dickens so young. I was lucky to have my mother who gave me more and more of these books. So, I believe Matilda should have felt really lonely and lost until she found Miss Honey.

4.5*

I absolutely love this book and how much did I want to be Matilda when I was a kid (minus the not so nice family, obviously). The characters are larger than life yet surprisingly belieavable each with traits you can recognise in people you know. The plot is well paced and imaginative while maintaining the emotional side of the story through Matilda herself. A brilliant story and well worth a read, adult and child alike

This was an interesting read for me. I was never allowed to read or watch the movie/book because “witchcraft?!” I was so excited to read it with my family now and turns out..we did not enjoy it! And also after a quick google search it turns out the author is anti-Semitic. So double whammy.
