Elizabeth George finally brings Scotland Yard's Detective Superintendent Thomas Lynley back after recuperating from a tragic loss. This time to investigate the accidental (?)death of a local rockclimber off the coast of Cornwall.

I'd give this 3 1/2 stars if I could. It was a pretty good read but suffered from too many characters, too much detail and too little Lynley and Havers.

I was really looking forward to getting back to a Lynley-centered narrative, and initially this did not disappoint. But as the book went on and offered about 20 red herrings, plus clumsy plotting and really obvious storylines I wondered if perhaps George rushed this one, or wasn't quite yet re-accustomed to writing Lynley. Upon reading the next in the series, I am convinced that this is the case since "This Body of Death" is much, much better in all respects. I guess "Careless in Red" is worth reading for continuity's sake, and to get a little of the aftermath from the last book.

it took me forever, but, i finally finished the latest installment of the inspector lynley mysteries...it kept me guessing until the end and was worth having to check it out twice & renew it once!

Some Elizabeth George fans gave this a poor review, but I liked it. It moved rather slowly, but I found the characters interesting.

Spoiler alert!

I also found the ending intriguing, but I can see why some may find it unsatisfying.

This series has gotten so boring. Especially this installment, which contains hardly any Barbara Havers. The fact that I forgot I had read it immediately after reading it can't be a good sign.

It's probably bad that I picked this book up first instead of starting at the beginning of the series. I knew that it was a series, but didn't realize that this book was the last. A friend told me that this book was not her favorite in the series, so I may start at #1 and see how I like them.

I was not a big fan of this book. First off, it's huge--over 600 pages. There were too many characters and it took way too long to get interesting. I would say I finally got into it around page 250.

I don't think I would recommend this book. But, I will probably start at the beginning one day to give Elizabeth George and Inspector Lynley a chance.
