“Your heart always has a home with me, Rose. No matter what, never forget that.”

My first read by this author. I loved it :) This was such a slow burn, but oh so worth it!! Made me laugh, cry, cringe....it was the book that had everything!!

Marriage for One is a slow burn marriage of convenience story.

Rose’s dream is to own a coffee shop and cafe. When her uncle dies and leaves her a property in his will, she thinks that her dream is finally going to be fulfilled. Jack knows of the condition in the will that the property will go to Rose’s husband and offers to marry her so she can inherit the property.

Jack is a grump but in the best way. Rose begins to melt his grouchy exterior with her optimism and lovable personality.

Jack’s love languages are acts of service and quality time. There are so many swoony scenes where he rolls up his sleeves to help Rose after working all day. I love how his heart was exposed through his actions.

It was a slow burn for the first 3/4 of the book and really picked up at the end. I wish we had gotten more of the last 1/4 so the ending didn’t feel rushed. But overall this is a really enjoyable book and one I will definitely re-read.

It’s definitely a slow burn... but without the angst it’s just slooowwwwww and boringgggg.... repetitious.

There was wayyy too much time spent on her illness/surgery. It just seemed to drag on.

The big secret was barely a secret by the time it was revealed.

DID NOT FINISH: 92%

Got bored and wasn't feeling it anymore

Bought this book months ago and I don't know why I didn't read it sooner because I LOVE IT! Slow burn, 50% for the first kiss kinda slow, but worth it. Don't forget to read the extra epilogue, it will give you the best ending ever!

DNF at 70%. The writing style seemed to be a direct transcription of the characters' every day, uninteresting conversations, making it quite dull and lacking any spice.

✨DNF at 30%✨ Don't let the hot guy on the cover fool you

Have you ever been listening to a teacher or lecture, and you wanted to fall asleep but forced yourself awake? That's what it felt like reading this book. And this year, I decided that if I feel like I have to force myself to read a book, I'm DNFing. It's not worth my time to read something subpar when I could be reading something exceptional.

This book has been on my TBR for ages and received high praise from BookTok and Bookstagram, so my expectations were high. Sadly, it did not live up to the hype.

It had all the elements to a contemporary romance I could want:
- NYC setting
- grumpy x sunshine trope
- marriage of convenience
- forced proximity
- he's a handsome, smart and rich lawyer
- she's a hard working, sweet coffee shop owner

Unfortunately, the story was slow moving, unnecessarily wordy, and incredibly cliche. The characters are boring. There's ZERO romantic chemistry. And what even is the plot? In the words of American Idol ex-judge, Randy Jackson, "It's a no from me dawg".
