Marriage for One

My first 10⭐ read of the year and in a while.

Going into this book I expected the same thing I did in a supposed enemies-to-lovers, marriage of convenience, and forced proximity trope.

I expected both Jack and Rose to have no resolve and star fucking right off the bat.But they didn't. Not until the very end of the book did their relationship become like that.

I loved that it was dual pov, I loved the characters, the plotline, the dialogue, everything. I loved this book so much and you cannot change my mind.

There was not a single flaw in this book, not a single thing that should have been added or removed, this is my third Ella Maise book and I like this one best out of all three.

I first read To Love Jason Thorn, then To Hate Adam Connor, and now Marriage for one. In my perspective, TLJT was very okay-ish, and THAC was really fun, and this one topped them both.

Im really excited to read more of her work.

I am mad. This book went from 5 stars to 2 stars. Lets start with the good which is concentrated in the beginning of the book.
First of all, I listened to most of this on audio and I think the narrators did a great job. Now what I liked in the book. I liked what we got of Sally and Ray. I loved Rose's monologues and her trying to create small talk. I laughed many times with the banter in the beginning. Also, I liked th whole thing with the charity event.

Let's come now to the declining line of me liking this book:
1- I didn't know about
Spoiler her suffering from a disease in this book
. It isn't the book's fault but I wasn't in the right mental state for reading that. Regardless, I won't drop the rating due to that but Jack thinking of kissing or touching her in that state. It made me feel uncomfortable and that would have made the book 4 stars. Oh also, I hated how his jealousy was mentioned. It didn't set well with me anytime it was mentioned.
2- After that, It dropped to 3 stars as I got glimpses of what Jack did even before knowing what he really did. I read a lot of books where the H/h keeps something from each other and the other side knowing before they got to tell each other but this is my first to find the H not even wanting to admit it at some point and continuing like that with zero guilt.
3- Before writing this review, I was going with 3 stars but actually it doesn't deserve that cause I have more that I didn't like. Her forgiving him and this fast made zero sense and grated on my nerves. The guy didn't even want to apologize
Spoiler and freaking gave her the divorce papers. He didn't even wait for her to decide that.
. Also when I wasn't liking the book, I started to notice how long it was and that is not a good thing in my reading experience. I mostly skimmed the last part of this book.
lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes

I was actually delighted with Marriage For One because I didn't anticipate enjoying it as much as I did. The story follows Rose, who wants to start her own coffee business. Although, she must be married to receive her uncle's half of the estate. After many misfortunes, she no longer has any prospect of that happening. She meets Jack Hawthorne, who unexpectedly pops the question to Rose and completely transforms her life. He promises to assist her in implementing an insane scheme that will benefit both of them. Despite his success and good looks, they are still strangers. Rose starts to think that her marriage of convenience was a major mistake because Jack doesn't show her even a little love.

Right from the start, Jack Hawthorne captured my heart. He was so irresistible. Without even trying, he is incredibly endearing. I admired how he paid her such close attention the entire time. Rose, however, was a truly adorable protagonist. I admired her self-reliance, courage, and sense of humor. The growth of Jack and Rose's relationship was fantastic! In this marriage of convenience, which gives Rose independence and lets her pursue her aspirations, they begin as essentially strangers. The book was perfectly balanced by a slow-moving romantic story with just the appropriate amount of drama and tension. I appreciated how everything was resolved by the end without rushing. The connection, tension, and chemistry are incredible! I admired that they didn't rush into bed after they met. Instead, I delighted in witnessing them forge a unique bond and fall in love. I adored every aspect of it because it was such a slow-burning story. It was tragic and upsetting, but it was well worth the hours I spent stumbling through the pages.

I didn’t hate this!
Was it a little cheesy? Yes. Was it basically a wattpad book made into a novel? Yes. Did I still enjoy it? Definitely.

It was a little underwhelming, but I still liked it.

If you’re looking for a good romance then read this!

This is by far my favorite marriage of convenience story I’ve ever read. The slow burn. The tension. The secrets. Everything about it made me unable to put this down even by the 3rd reread.

I love Rose and Jack separately and together. She counts his smiles since a hes broody and moody and she wants to make the most out of their marriage. Once Jack realizes the distance he was trying to put up between them is pointless he becomes the best husband. The little moments they share are the sweetest and it t leaves you dying for more. He takes care of her and gives her things she’s never had before.

Neither of them have a family and I love that they make their own family. They’re there for one another even though the hard times that neither signed up for. He takes care of her when sick, helps her with the cafe, buys her fresh flowers. Rose is such a strong character and she does just as much for Jack she opens him up and gives him someone that loves him for him.

OK, but not entirely

eh... started out great but then it became way too cheesy. the ‘secret’ is kind of weird for me too.

DID NOT FINISH: 13%

The writing felt very juvenile and I’m very upset that I didn’t like this
