Such a cute and easy read!! It is so short and quick, it goes by so quickly!! Ella Maise’s writing is captivating, I cannot get enough of it!

I had picked this up based on a recommendation on Chandler Ainsley’s channel. She tends to recommend a lot of romance books, especially in the contemporary genre so check the channel out if you like similar romance books.
To be honest, contemporary romances and I tend to have a hit and miss relationship. I enjoy them but tend not to love them. Very few contemporaries reach five stars for me which I am fine with as these romances serve as a palate cleanser for me.
This was generally a fine book - the hero is a grumpy curmudgeon with an obvious marshmallow centre for our heroine. He proposes a marriage of convenience to help our heroine open her coffee shop. The premise is ridiculous but nothing unusual in these sort of contemporary novels (it’s like these authors attend an alternative economics-for-romance-novels class in college which I missed).
The first half was stronger as our couple learn to live in their marriage and the readers discover the soft centre of our hero. There is actually very little plot despite some appearances from a sinister cousin which doesn’t really go anywhere.
The second half though was unnecessarily elongated to prolong the novel. Because of this I left the book on a bit of an average note. In the end I would give this a 2.5 stars (which I am rounding down for consistency).
Readers of contemporary romance will probably like this much better than I so check it out. The writing was actually good but plotting let it down.
PS. The cover is great! I really enjoyed looking at the picture while I was bored with the story.

Spoiler
There are a number of chapters dealing with the heroine’s sickness which were completely unnecessary. We already knew that the hero was in love and committed to her so that extra length could have been removed without much change. It was a shift in tone which really threw me.Readers of contemporary romance will probably like this much better than I so check it out. The writing was actually good but plotting let it down.

i was so excited to read this thinking i would love it but i am sooo disappointed.
firstly, i was on the hunt for a slowburn romance and saw this recommended as one. and maybe to others this is a slow burn but it's definitely not what i consider a slowburn romance. i also hate dual pov because the guy always falls first and fast (which i don't care if he does but i just don't wanna know about it)
second, this book was lowkey really boring and not much happens. normally i don't mind books that don't have much of a plot as long as i love characters and care enough about them to read them doing mundane tasks. but i didn't really care about jack and rose. they were a bit bland and lacked depth. other than rose opening her coffee shop and the other thing that happens to her in the second half she doesn't go through much else to keep me invested. rose's backstory had the potential to be deep but it felt so surface level. and then jack also lacked depth. there's barely anything about his background or who he is. he lacked a personality too. if you're going to have a book more focused on the characters you have to make sure they are interesting and have depth to them. also what he did was a bit weird and she lowkey forgave him a bit fast for it.
thirdly, this book needed an editor SOO BAD. there ares just chunks of dialogue with no breaks that was all ramblings and it made it so difficult to read. i can tell this was originally self published because it was so obvious. i just don't get why these books aren't edited a bit after they are picked up. this book was so long and so much could be cut out.
overall, i'm very disappointed because this had potential and i genuinely thought i would love it 🥲

I’m unsure why this one girl I follow raved so hard about this one. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood set but it didn’t do it for me. I liked the couple and the sx was good, but the writing lacked a bit for me. And there was no need for this to be almost 500 pages
