Deadhouse Gates is way much better than Gardens of the Moon; a very exciting plot (especially the Chain of the Dogs part), much more developed new and old characters, superbly laid "non-genre" philosophical notions and questions, a very nice flavour of humor, and great prose for the most part of the book, made this second book of the series a unique reading experience. The only thing that still troubles me is Erikson's habit to give too many hints about things that haven't -yet- appeared in the main plot.
If it weren't for the size of the series, I would keep reading them, but now I think I will take a break from the Books of the Fallen...

Don’t know how I feel I expected a self contained ending like in the 1st one so a little bit let down bcoz of that. Do hope the third one follows this characters but I think I’m going to be wrong

This book was absolutely brilliants. In every way, this book stepped-up from book 1. The characters were great, the plot was thoroughly interesting and the world developed incredibly. An absolutely brilliant book and can't wait to continue with this series.

"Coltaine rattles slow
across the burning land.
The wind howls through the bones
of his hate-ridden command.
Coltaine leads a chain of dogs
ever snapping at his hand.
Coltaine's fist bleeds the journey home
along rivers of red-soaked sand.
His train howls through his bones
in spiteful reprimand.

This continues what happens in Gardens of the Moon with a tighter cast and on another continent. They are preparing for a violent war.
This book was way better than the 1st. It was more tightly written, wasn't as confusing for the sake of being confusing. The characters were the more compelling from the 1st one and it made a much more interesting read. The plot line itself felt a lot better. It really made sense why people say to read the first two books.
4/5
This book is worth forcing yourself to read the first one. It's really good and it's a lot darker than the first one. It makes sense why this book is considered such an important series within fantasy.
