It's hard to pin down what I feel about the narrator. On one hand I think she's very sympathetic and I want someone to step up and help her come around. On the other, I don't think anyone deserves to be subjected to the manipulation and lies, which I know for a fact I would be scandalized to discover in someone I consider a friend. Poor Milosh.
Excellent writing.
Excellent writing.

I liked the writing, but I felt relieved when I finished the book. I kept reading only because of the descriptions of the Berlin atmosphere and the occasional German words.
I pulled out my keys and let myself into the courtyard of 105 HuberStraße, feeling as exhausted as Bilbo on his safe return to Bag End.
And thanks to Bea Setton, I decided to reread The Hobbit.

A modern bell jar (which gets referenced), and a good book to read in your 20s.
I found the main character sympathetic but frustrating. She's generally pretty unable to take care of herself, pushes away communities that could help her, has very low self esteem, self sabotages and is very self centered.
Very much does not romanticize Berlin. I think shows some of the ways it can be challenging to move there, but ultimately also shows the opportunities that abound that Daphne is unwilling or unable to accept and pursue.
I relate to her perfectionism, to her reluctance to take accountability for her circumstances and to her head in the clouds fantasy to experience many lives, her grief at not being able to do so.
