This was amazing! I'm gonna digest a bit more and do a proper review afterwards but my life! What a ride!
Heart-Shaped Box was better than Horns. It had a more believable characters and storyline.

I started this book on July 20th, so this makes it officially the longest 389 page book I have ever read. I loved the first book by Mr. Hill I read, [b:NOS4A2|15729539|NOS4A2|Joe Hill|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1369591617s/15729539.jpg|21408527]. It was engaging and kept me hanging on each word. The same could not be said for this book. It is a shame really, because the premise was so good. An aging rock star buys a ghost over the internet. The problem was the way it was written made it not interesting. That is why it took me so long to finish this novel. I'm not giving up on Joe hill, I have [b:Horns|6587879|Horns|Joe Hill|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1402958805s/6587879.jpg|6781405] on my reading list for 2016.

I think my first half rating of the year? I’m conflicted. The story fell a bit flat, and the scares were minimal. I did like the characters he wrote, and the overall premise was interesting. Execution fell a little flat.
It’s surprising because I really enjoyed N0S4A2 and this one seemed like it should have been better.

3.5 Dark, Creepy stars
I admit this took a while to get into. I would start it and then put it aside for something else. The story was easy to come back to. It takes haunting to another level. Joe Hill does a fantastic job of delivering a thrilling and terrifying adventure. The last 1/4 of the book was so addictive. I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed it so much. I can't say I loved any of the characters, they had so many terrible qualities, but I did find myself cheering on Jude.

Definitely the work of an angry young man with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove, but that’s kind of what works so well about it. It’s a mean, NASTY little book that sprints right out of the gate and, somehow, never stops. I am constantly in awe of Joe Hill (and his dad’s) ability to make writing look so effortless. They always seem to find the right words and, just as important, put them in the right place.
