1) All from the beginning this sounded like a one of those off the shelf self-help books you find in small bookstores that you try to convince yourself are remotely interesting. They usually aren't. Like how first impressions work: you try to convince yourself to give this thing a chance but later realize you really should not have bothered at all.

2) It's too much chatter really, it's very difficult to read something that sounds like a 400 page long literacy list at the end of a giant study paper with clippings between every page from someones own diary.

3) This book is a self-help book for the person who already knows where he stands and where his stance is. But dont have the confidence to admit it to himself or someone else, he needs an authority or parent to lift that burden off his shoulder instead of just saying: this is my path. There are really no arguments, just presentations of one side of the coin. There are so many things that seem very irrelevant context-wize in certain parts and it's just exhausting to read that. 48 pages out of an almost 400 page book was an awful experience. And I tend to be able to be that weirdo that never finds anything boring and would read - almost after this - anything.

May or may not get back to it when my to-read list gets empty. We'll see.

Reading the lowly rated comments on this book was almost as entertaining as the book itself. It managed to put a lot of my own thoughts and feelings together in an articulate way, particularly those that discussed organised religion. Although this book was only rating at 3.79 when I reviewed it I'm sure that if you separated those giving reviews from a secular society to those from a religious society the numbers would differ immensely. A very brave book that's a must read even if you know you'll rate it as a 0.5 or a 5.0 even before you read it.
