I initially anticipated on giving this book a five stars, but instead gave it a 4.5/5 just because some of the parts read a little bit slow. However, this is still a phenomenal read. This part biography, part memoir reflects on Lily's relationship with her father, but it has a unique writing style with the addition of research that's added on to the subjects she is discussing. From the start you see how she unravels this romanticized idea she has of her dad as he carries on his life in a selfish manner by leaving his children and eventually succumbing to addiction.

The portion on the cult influence in her father's life was incredibly fascinating. As she was recounting her memories I couldn't help but make the connection to Bexy Cameron's "Cult Following" memoir, since both women had these experiences in their early adolescence and it had eventually impacted them negatively later on in life.

Your emotions swing with author's as she brings you to places of sadness and anger but also happiness and hope. If you're a non fiction book lover who wants a through provoking read then this one might be for you.
