Disturbing, gross, irreverent, and totally AWESOME! Lenore is brilliant.
This probably goes as a 3.5 because I was torn between being utterly shocked to laughing giddily. It reads as an unholy union between Tim Burton and Dr Suess...tripping on LSD...
I didn't like this one as much as the other book that I read but this was the first book so it had no story arc just single or double page spreads. Still funny and creative but not as cool.
I was expecting dark and demented but probably not quite at the level I got. The art is different and definitely rough compared to the later volumes. There was a little too much animal cruelty for my comfort but the nursery rhyme and Poe bits were amusing. It did garner a few laughs out of me.
A collection of dark comics starring Lenore, the dead girl, named after Edgar Allan Poe's "Lenore". Lenore finds herself in all sorts of interesting situations, from pet-sitting, babysitting, to hosting a slumber party. A quick, perverse read. Definitely NOT for children!
I love Lenore and Roman Dirge for creating her and bringing her to 'life'. This is the first volume of Lenore and has the first four issues that have been painstakingly recreated and coloured by Roman Dirge himself. Even in these early days Lenore is superbly funny and adorable and here we find her discovering Ragamuffin, get our first look at Mr Gosh and find that Lenore is not so good at babysitting. We also have the added bonus, which is continued in later volumes, of Dirge's childhood stories and some guest artwork and Lenore stories at the end of the volume. You just cannot help but love that cute little dead girl!

I think young adults would like this. A mixture of Emily the Strange, Tim Burton and Edward Gorey. Some parts were better than others, and it was nothing I would really like, but I think it would be good for any teen collection or anyone who was into Emily the Strange.
