this started off really well and then the villain just...never arrived? felt like i kept waiting for the villain to show up, only for them to be present in like the last 5-10% of the book. denouement felt really rushed too.

As with the other Lynsay Sands books I’ve read, this is a solid 4 stars. I really like the world she’s created and I love the whole Buchanan family.

I’m reading the series completely out of order (7, 8, 4 now) but once you learn who all the brothers are and their order, it’s not too big of a deal... other than watching Conran and Geordie making idiots of themselves when I’ve already read their love stories and know they’ll find their matches soon enough.

This one follows the brother Dougall and Murnie as they learn that Murine’s family are really the lowest of the low. But Dougall is all business and Murine is a smart and funny girl and they seem to balance nicely. It’s always a wild romp with the whole Buchanan family involved and I liked that the plot isn’t too complicated but not entirely boring and laid out.

Clearly I read these for the “plot” and the “plot” in this book is nice and steamy. Lynsay Sands’ books aren’t usually the dirtiest but not clean either. I could stand for her to get more into it but it does scratch that romance itch I occasionally get.

Overall, a good addition to the Buchanan family story and I want to read more!

Loved this story with all the danger, drama, fun, and sweetness as these two fell in love. Can't wait to watch the rest of the brothers fall!

It was alright, not as good as the first but liked it more than the last two. I think my journey with this series end here. There's so many other historical romances to explore than continue on with one that doesn't quite work for me. It's not a bad series but haven't made any huge impact in my historical romance mood

Lynsay Sands phoned this one in. Lazy writing, silly plot choices (really? All these brothers are so smitten that they bring EVERY dress for Murine to choose from so they are conveniently destroyed by a fire forcing her to wear braies so Dougall can ogle her butt?), and strange word choices (butt cheek? In medieval Scotland, really?). And then it just sort of ends. Do better.

I'd like a book about Aulay, please, given that he's got some hang-ups I think he'd be far more interesting to write about. (Next one's about Niels, tho, oh well)

Murine's half brother tries to sell or rent her out as payment for horses from Dougall Buchanan, when the man leaves in disgust she takes the opportunity to run away because she knows he will just sell her to someone else. Dougall and his brothers come across her running away on her bull that she's raised from a babe, and decide to take her where she's headed and protect her when they find out she's the one who saved their sister's life.
Murine faints all the time because she eats barely enough to keep a bird alive so the boys all coerce her into eating more, and of course someone is trying to kill her, there's a definite pattern to these stories, but they can be fun if you don't read them back to back.

My issues with this book have been largely explored by everybody else who wasn't smitten with it, but to pin point a few...

Somethings were so over explained, such as when the main character is going off to pee (which happens too many times btw).

There was basically no emotional build up in the romantic relationship? It just kind of happened - I think this may have been because it felt like the majority of the book wasn't actually spent on the two, supposed, main characters but was instead spent clunkily explaining what had happened before or what the other brothers were up to. This was another thing that decreased my enjoyment of this book.

There must have been some things that I enjoyed that saved it from a 1 star rating, but my impression a few days after finishing it is overwhelmingly negative.

It's not the worst thing ever, but it's not particularly good either.
