There is no love like a mother’s love. It is life’s greatest song. We are all indebted to the women who have given us life, for without them, there would be no music.
Dave Grohl is definitely part of the soundtrack of my youth. Not with Nirvana, but as the singer for The Foo Fighters. I remember blaring Times Like These, My Hero, Learn to Fly and DOA thru my late teens and early twenties. Hearing his life story in his own voice is so special. He is so eloquent with his words. And one of the most refreshing things about his story is his love of his mother and all the women in his life. He sings his mother praises, his wife is described beautifully and inspiringly, and he talks about his daughters like the world is merely a speck in comparison to their existence. Listening to the anguish when he spoke of Kurt Cobain made me also think about his recent loss, Taylor Hawkins. I actually went back and watched the now viral clip of Dave Grohl introducing Shane Hawkins, son of Taylor, at the memorial concert. He said he had never seen anyone hit the drums as hard… but in his book that is exactly how he describes himself.
Dave is such an interesting soul, with a heart full of empathy and an eye to find inspiration from the most mundane things.
I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir. I hope he doesn’t mind staying part of the soundtrack of my adulthood now.

10 stars! This deserves 10 stars! Do not read the physical book. Save that for an autograph. Listen to it. The story is told by Dave himself. He is such a an amazing story teller!
Listening to Dave tell the story of the first time Nirvana played Smells Like Teen Spirit, I felt like I was there feeling the feelings that he was feeling. Listening to him tell about the first time he learned about Kurt's death. I felt it!
You will laugh, you will cry, you will gasp!
