This book got so confusing for awhile then things finally started slowly fitting into place. I love the characters but these guys need to stop fucking up and Violet has to get over her "choose" mentality whenever she gets close to one and start accepting she can have ALL.

Screaming. Crying. Throwing up. That is the only way I can think to describe this book. Im honestly sad that there’s only one book left for me to read. I have loved this series so freaking much it’s not even funny.

This is by far my favorite of the five books and a complete 5 stars for many reasons.
Now because it's the fifth book, naturally there will be spoilers for the previous ones, so this is your warning

Synopsis

Violet - January - Portocale is a witch with a hidden secrets that comes to live in a town with more hidden secrets. She meets four dashing Paranormal Gypsies descended from a Van Helsings, a Vampire, a WereWolf, and a Succubus. These four were a decade ago connected to a Simpleton Gypsy, Idun, who is so powerful and cruel that she molded herself to be the dream woman of each one and lured them to sacrifice something precious to gain immortality. These five immortals were cursed by the Portocale Gypsies to suffer unimaginable torment whenever a Portocale Gypsy dies. Violet was able to break the curse and slowly slowly gained the trust of the four monsters only for them to realize that she is a monster herself, a unique one.
Violet is outraged to find that in order to put Idun underground, her Simpleton innocent clan had to be put out with her. Vi sets out to free these Simpletons and creats a Sanctuary for the weaker Omegas of every Gypsy Clan. While doing that, they discover that Idun has already gotten out and is planning something

The Slow Burn

This is the slowest slow-burn series I have ever read and I love it
The relationship between Violet and her men was not immediate. We were not hit with the rushed lust or the sudden realization that they are fated for each other.
Many secrets had to be revealed, their characters had to show for them to come together
I mean yes there was some sex, but not once they showed any indication of like/love feelings for each other until this book
and when the "I love you" hit, it was the most beautiful thing
“If I hadn’t fallen in love with you that first day you spotted me, as Vance drugged you and painted your toes, I would have fallen for you the day you threw yourself at my feet and freely gave me your throat—without one ounce of regard to the personal cost to yourself—to break a curse that has tormented me for centuries,”

Violet's character

If you read the previous books or read some of the reviews, Violet appears to be this naive, clumsy, weak female who is helpless and always waits for someone to rescue her. But as we go into the series and more secrets are surfacing, Violet is anything but.
for one, she is an Empath, which means she has a strong sense of others' feelings and stress. I do not consider this a weakness at all.
She is unpredictable. Like the men come to realize, you cannot expect what she will do next, she can get herself out of trouble in her own way.
She is smart and resourceful. She knew that the men would stand in her way if she confronted Eden so she made use of their preoccupied state and the fact that they thought her naive to design a set of rules and make them sign it.
“I built this place, because not even you would listen to a voice weaker than an alpha’s. You’re all hardened, and I understand why. I don’t even judge you for it, despite appearances,” Violet says as she pushes open her door. Her eyes flick back to mine as she steps out on her good leg. “So that means I have to step up if I want someone to care about everyone who will die. If Idun claims even one life from sanctuary, no one will ever have faith in it. And all you care about is what she may do to all of you and me. To hell with everyone else.”

She also got familiar with all the laws concerning Alphas and was able to outsmart Eden to save an Omega's life.

"I’m January Violet Carmine, and I’m as resilient as a Neopry Simpleton and as stubborn as a Portocale. I’m just getting started. I’m young and naïve, so I have plenty of fight left in me. I was born to be your fucking punching bag.” “I was born to stand in your way, just because I fucking can. And now everyone’s going to know that you’re not my problem. But I just became the only problem you’re allowed to have, because you, the big, scary, all-powerful alpha can’t even make me scream while I’m still just a pup.”

In the end, she was able to wrap the four fearsome monsters and their families and clans around her fingers.
“Don’t you fuckers dare start a war after watching Idun TV for five months. You owe me this,”
Emit chose her willingly as his mate
Arion wants her as his Bride
Damien is set to make her his Flame
and Vanse is buying a ring to propose
something none has done with Eden

“If you want me on my knees, I’ll happily get on them for you right now. But what I want is that surrender. I’m already your monster. I want you to be mine in return.”

So No, Violet is not naive. she is empathic and kind-hearted who knew how to use that to her advantage
“I hate that little monster is even right about that. Can we not tell her we’re huge idiots anymore? The damn girl is too young to be right so much,” he adds on a frustrated breath.

the refrences

the mix between urban legends and mythological creatures was very well done.
So you have Pandora and Succubus from Greek mythology
and Vampires, werewolves and monster-hunters from legends aaaand Dorian Grey!!
“The metaphorical and literal box was smashed, unable to seal Pandora’s Box ever again. Hope was released into all of us—Pandora’s way of balancing the scales in an attempt to keep us as human as possible,”

and what is Violet? She is Frankenstein. A man-made monster with superhuman powers but a kind heart who only wants to be accepted and loved. She is Hope that would bring all these monsters together rather than tear them apart.

Idun

She is the devil, the temptation, the evil whisperer. She is all of the seven sins. Her name is close to the EDEN like the paradise satan was kicked out from. She is the history that never learns from her mistakes and is bound to make them again and again.

Final note, I promise
Did this series have to be six books? Maybe not. Four or Five would have been enough. Did it need to be six books? Yes it did. Each book was a step and a revelation that brought us closer and closer to the end. So my advice is read this at it is. A six-book slow burn that is best enjoyed at the end.

This. Was. Awesome.

I swear by God I don't understand the ones leaving bad reviews. This entire series was .... I don't have adjectives good enough.
This is the second series I read from this author (the first one was with the demonic chick, but I stopped at the third book because I felt there was too much politics... But really I just wanted to see more sex ) and I just fell in love with this serie.

I love LOVE how she writes, the story/world building/ characters.... Everything.

This s*it was gooooooooooood.

Kristy Cunning/ C.M Owens has officially become part of my favorite writers ( I have got some high standards).
She is up there with Karen Marie Morning, Kresley Cole and all the others for me.

If anyone reads this and wonders if they should give it a shot... This is my answer.

jfkdsakjflajsldfjdlsaf why end it like that? hot damn.

Gypsy Rising was so freaking good! Violet has been underestimated by everyone. So I was intrigued once more by her after Idun came back. It definitely sucked that she was kind of getting pushed under the rug by her four freaking boyfriends. Ugh, guys are clueless.

Violet is a bad ass in this book. I didn't think she could become more lovable but she totally did and I enjoyed it all. She definitely made the guys rethink about everything. Especially since those little shitheads did nothing for 5 months straight. I get that they were obsessed over their ex and thought she would do something to Violet.. but damn - they didn't even think about poor Violet.

She definitely put them in their place and I think they might need to grovel more. Luckily for me, she hasn't forgiven them all just yet but I'm sure things will really heat up once she does. Which I can't wait for. I seriously want them all together just to see what will happen! Ugh, the ending - damn cliffhangers - but I'm slightly freaking out with how this one ended.

Need the next book now!
