Detective story with some lovely points of difference: strong historical detail of some of WWI and psychological aftermath, main character is female and a trailblazer, albeit with kindly ‘helpers’., good starting point for the series.

Tidily perfect, in a nondescript way. 2.5 stars, rounded up because it had a bit more depth. Nothing wrong with it which means there's too much right. I also get that it's the first and the author probably wasn't sure if the series would continue. Lots of books suffer from that.

Too dull and slow paced. Repeating the same person's name (Billy) over and over again during a conversation got tiring.
