This was very cute, part of my re-read children's classics. The thing that delighted me most as an adult reading this was all the funny made up words, many of which SOUND like they ought to be innuendos for something sexual or otherwise inappropriate to an adult ear, but that's just the modern ear, not anything actually there in the text. The artwork was fun too!

Took me 4 days to read this book! It just didn’t grab my attention and several parts just made me feel a bit weird out. Didn’t find it funny as some other works by the author and the storyline was too ridiculous.

Przyjemna i urocza historia. Dzieciom powinna się podobać.

I read this book way back when I was a kid, along with a lot of other Dahl books. Research brought me back to it, and I still liked it. I always liked characters like Sophie and Matilda because they were girls like me going on fantastic adventures. Sophie I like even more because she wore glasses like I do. It's a small thing, but it's nice to feel represented in a book.

A lot of the book is just the two of them talking, which isn't a bad thing because we get to know both of their personalities through the conversations. The body count in this book is actually a little funny now that I'm older. So many people are getting eaten every night. And yet not a single Giant is killed or even permanently hurt at the end. It's interesting. I also like that Dahl couldn't resist sneaking his own name in the book (Dahl Chickens instead of Charles Dickens) and neither could he resist fart jokes.

I could feel my age a little reading some of this, but over all it was nice getting back into Dahl's writing.

My kids loved this! As a read-aloud, I wasn’t a huge fan of it because of all the made-up words and language. I got tired of it quickly. If we ever try this book again, I will get the audio version.
