I definitely read this as a child, but I couldn't have told you the plot or anything now, so it was very fun to revisit it. The story is hilarious and horrifying, much like The Witches, one of my personal favorites. I also listened to the audio, read by David Walliams, and it's fantastic.

I read this as a child and just recently finished reading it with my 7-year-old son, we both enjoyed it.

My son loved the wild plot, the made-up words, and the mixed-up phrases.

I loved the life lessons that Dahl cleverly worked into this story.

We both loved the friendship that Sophie and the BFG developed throughout the story.

One of Dahl's masterpieces. From an adult POV the amazing use of language in this feels even more incredible!

This book is so goofy. There are some genuinely hilarious moments, primarily having to do with the BFG's endearingly mangled English ("I is only sleeping once in a blue baboon"). There is definitely a break in the comedic charm once the Queen of England makes an appearance, though. I remember feeling the same way as a kid when I read this book. She's kind of a comedy-killer.

I wanted to read more of Dahl's famous children's books. This one was decent.

I've never seen the film.
