This was a book club pick. I don’t think I would have read it otherwise, but I did appreciate the happy ending!

So fun :-) Definitely worth a read
funny lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Loveable characters: Yes

Four women who unknowingly need each other are brought together by Gloria Golden and her group of lifelong friends. They grow closer to each other and discover more about themselves over a summer of reading "dirty books".

3.5 stars

Some aspects I really liked, others fell flat.

The story was too superficial for my liking. It didn't get deep enough into any of the characters for me to really understand them and the switch from disinterested to best friends felt too quick and inauthentic.

3.5. Nothing brilliant but enjoyable. It hit me in the gut at the very end. So, I rounded up to 4.

Such a fun read! Everyone needs a group like this in their lives. I’m making a list so I can start my own DBC!!

I was really hoping this would be a fun, lighthearted read. Nothing that would stick with me, make me think or even inspire a conversation - just fun. It ended up being silly, overwritten and strangely melodramatic.

Think I'm overly critical? Here's my favorite line: "An omission might poke their hymen of trust, but wouldn't break it."

Perfectly forgettable women’s fiction, with Harrison’s telltale unnecessary label dropping, and obsession with appearance in lieu of actually substantive writing. I enjoyed it for what it was but it’s clear the authors style hasn’t grown up from when she wrote The Clique. MJ is basically grown up Massie. Not great but better than others’ in its class.
