How am I just finding Ellen Hopkins? I couldn't put this one down - perhaps because of my upbringing. No abuse in my Mormon childhood, but always feeling less than because of my gender is a memory that goes back as far as I have memories...
This is my first Ellen Hopkins read. I’ve already ordered two of her other books.

I enjoyed this way more than Crank!! So glad I picked it up!
Wonderful story. Abuse all to often goes unnoticed in all families in the world. Seeing Pattyn learn there is a world worth living away from her own family gives her hope, and you can't wait to see what happens.

This book was well-written, but it was so bleak and depressing at the end. So, I can only give it 3 stars. I don't think I'll read anything else by this author since all her stuff is supposed to be just as depressing and "realistic".
Remember high school English class? Remember when you are in the middle of an essay thought, and you go back to check your word count, and realize you've hit the magic word count number, and then feel free to stop mid-thought and add The End?
That's kind of how this book ends.
It was interesting, and although I don't agree with all of the options, it had an interesting (if exaggerated) point of view.
