Not my favorite collection of comics. I found The End of Summer difficult to follow because everyone looked the same. It was difficult to tell them all apart so I was confused with who was doing what most of the story.

The small comics from Walden’s youth were a cute inclusion. You can really see her development as an artist as time goes on and she experiments more. I think my favorite was In The Palm Of Your Hand—what an interesting and incredibly sapphic concept. I would love to be shown the world by a goddess lol.

Really enjoyed everything, but the first comic. It just really did not work for me.

I was glad that the collection started with The End of Summer because that one was my least favorite of the three longer comics. I Love This Part and A City Inside were both so good. I also liked getting to look at Walden’s earlier works and learning about her artistic influences.

Tillie Walden will probably forever be one of my favorites because I love her art style. It's so unique. You see a graphic novel by her and you know it's hers almost immediately. And getting to see how that style changed over time? Amazing. I loved the little notes she included as well, talking about her own process as an artist and how she was influenced while she was creating.

I don't know why it took me so long to read this particular collection, but I love that all her early work is together in one place. Something I definitely need to add to my own graphic novel collection, and I don't know why I haven't yet!

There's so much emotion in this book, even though some of the stories are short. For sure something I want to revisit again in the future!

This is a book of collected works of Tillie Walden, so feels essentially like a short story collection.
I started reading Tillie Walden with Spinning, which is still, I think, her most accessible and story-driven work.
Her art is so, so amazing and the pieces in Alone in Space are no exception.  As in some of her other work (On a Sunbeam and Are you listening), the dreamlike quality of the work seems more important to her than having the reader understand exactly what even happened in the story.

In this collection, I particularly liked The end of summer (though not clear on what happened, or in some parts, why it happened) and Glare (one of her earliest works).

I guess one of the reasons I don't like the ambiguity is that it blunts the emotional effect of the events in the stories--which may be exactly why she does it--it's unsettling with art that is so precise, at times photographic, to feel like the story is not fully filled in.

Tillie Walden is one of my favourite authors so as expected I really enjoyed this. This includes her first three graphic novels and some of her early comics and It was really interesting seeing how her style has developed since. There are so many stunning pages and I love the way she draws architecture. There were a few times where I found the story of The End Of Summer hard to follow but the illustrations were so beautiful that I was happy to go with the flow. I still haven't read Are You Listening? and while I'll be sad that I'll then have read all her books, I think I'll get round to it soon.
