So bittersweet to see Rafiel brought back this way. But what a wonderful story. Finally Ms Marple taking center stage. Pity it's the second last book in the series.

Of course, there's a healthy scoop of slut shaming and racism for the era. I've read enough Christie to glaze over it but it's very present and unapologetic.

The plot bored me a lot ngl and there was a lot of stuff in there
in particular how sexual assault victims were portrayed
which rubbed me the wrong way

I see why people don't like this one - definitely read the content warnings or other reviews for more on that. But it's helped me read a book in a stressful time and I found it both familiar (for Marple) and surprising (for the way the mystery was presented). I also liked that there was a slight connection to the Caribbean mystery one and more references to other characters in this universe. (But I am still laughing about MM's description of women as "less accurate" than men!)

I honestly did not like the ending HAHAHA geez I did not think this was possible but it was. The beginning is so slow it got into my nerves, sorry.

This is the slowest agatha christie's book I have ever read. It started being really intriguing but then it became consistently redundant. There are ramblings spread all over the book about the same stuff. Usually I'm annoyed with Miss Marple, but I actually quite like her in this one and I kinda ship her with Professor Wanstead. But the writing and the editing really could be better. And don't even let me started on the sexism, the xenophobia, and the victim blaming in this book. Reading this book is SO SO SO SO tiring.

The plot is alright, but I have a question:
what took Mr. Rafiel so long to investigate it? Like suddenly Miss Marple is his last resort, even if he knew that her success was clearly not guaranteed. Miss Temple I could understand, because she didn't really get the immediate effect of the whole affair, although it's a lot of coincidence too that Miss Temple decides to go on her "pilgrimage" at the same time as Mr. Rafiel's investigation (via Miss Marple). And I definitely think Miss Marple could solved the mystery sooner if Mr. Rafiel just told her what the mystery was after she accepted it?? So why we have to be here. Why.
