Awesome thrilling novel. Great premise, I just wish there was MORE to explore the mental descent of the characters, especially with Jack as he was built up to be a fairly complex character with a lot to work through. A little long for my taste but it is a King novel so that’s to be expected

I've started this year a personal challenge to read all of King's novels and novellas in publish date order, and the Shining is still top of my list. It's a masterwork is character story telling, and has plenty of moments to make your skin crawl. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a thriller/horror book, or for an entrance into Stephen King's work.

The Shining is a masterpiece written by Stephen King. It perfectly depicts the horrors of human psychology and dives deep into it. The book sends you on a nail-biting, terrifying rollercoaster of emotions. The way this book is written scares you both in the short-term and in the long-term.
Example: Some parts of the book had me shaking from fear and the book instilled a slight fear of hotels into me for the long-term. I do not give this book 5 stars due to the extremely graphic content which I had trouble reading. However, besides the extremely detailed descriptions of violent acts, I love everything about it.
