Banging read, handled the topics really well. If youve ever thought a book about family with some supernatural horror would be cool, this is the book for you.

While I felt the book did an amazing job building tension for me that just wasn’t enough to really love the book. If I’m honest I felt it dragged a bit at times and it was abundantly clear that King did not know how to write Black characters. Which he admitted to himself so don’t come for me. The racism and use of the “magical negro” troupe really overshadowed much of the later chapters for me personally.

Not necessarily a book I would recommend without a bunch of trigger warnings and disclaimers, but I also get why it was such an influence of horror fiction.

The first half of the book was so slow and boring in my opinion and it just seemed like nothing was actually happening. Then in the second half it finally livened up and the second half was brilliant!

definite overuse of the n-word for sure. putting that aside (as much as you can), definitely my favorite stephen king book. also different from the movie, which i watched first 😅
