Star Wars: Han Solo by Marjorie Liu and Mark Brooks

A five issue mini-series which is a lot of fun.

I love the artwork by Mark Brooks.

The plot by Marjorie Liu is fast paced. Princess Leia enlists Han Solo's help to pick up some rebel informants and spies from under the noses of the Empire. His cover is to enter as a pilot in the prestigious Dragon Void race.
It's a race that not many survive!
Before you can say 'I have a bad feeling about this', Han has agreed and off he goes with Chewbacca in the Millennium Falcon.

Why is a race he may not survive the best cover for this mission? No one knows 🤣. It's probably best not to question the logic of anything that happens in this book.
The race scenes look fantastic but don't try and work out where the 'track' is as we don't need to know that in the story.  And the main reason it's dangerous appears to be that the Empire keeps shooting at everyone and trying to stop the race, although we're told they don't usually interfere so I'm not sure why the racers don't usually survive.
Ok, so a lot of the story makes no sense 🤣. But that doesn't stop it being a fun and entertaining book.
There's a couple of nice scenes between Han & Leia, Wookie action, race action, intrigue with the spies and knowing one is a traitor, and a great alien character who is the last of her species and a veteran of the Dragon Void race.

How will Han Solo survive the race and find out who the murderous traitor to the rebels is?
Fly fast and ask the informants if they are a traitor perhaps? No, it's going to be more complicated than that Han. Isn't it?  Well....

I had a lot of fun while reading it and there is more going on than what I've said but don't spoil your enjoyment by analysing the plot.

It looks great, it's fun and it's Han Solo.
✨✨✨✨4 stars

"You create walls. You manufacture rules. You live a small life, while lying to yourself that you're as open and free as the stars. You tell yourself the reason is survival, good reason, right? But sometimes survival is about telling yourself lies, until you can't lie anymore. And then you have to make a choice about who you really are and what's worth living for. Lies are easier, that's for sure."

This was my favourite mini of all and i got in with very high expectations because of the creative team. Whatever she writes, she gets the characters and their story right and Marjorie Liu never fails to make it worthwhile for me.

It is a great story about Han during his time getting established and working for the rebellion. It covers a mission where Han needs to compete in a race, and I liked seeing the Smuggler-Han and General-Han fight against one another as the story develops.

That was a lot of fun to read. I have only recently ventured into the world of Star Wars comics or at least the comics that are part of the canon. Last month I read Shattered Empire found that very enjoyable and the same goes for this Han Solo comic too. It was always good to spend time with Han, Chewie and the Falcon. Also, the writing was fantastic while the art kind of felt like something was lacking. I also love to know more about this Han Solo. He's the rogue we meet at first before his transformation and before the original trilogy and this comic definitely delivered everything I wanted from it.

I mean, I enjoyed it, but the part I really liked I'd already read (Han Solo #1-5)! The second part (Star Wars 2015 #8-12) was good, but I def felt like it was missing something... even for a comic book. The end needed a resolution. But the illustrations were great.
