My 6yo and I agree that this was fun, but not great. She is a strong reader for her age, but struggled with the yak's misspelled dialogue. We were both confused by the empty jar, but figured it out by re-reading from the beginning. We haven't read the Inspector Flytrap books, but that didn't seem to matter. This was just super silly.
The funniest part for us was how the chicks at the mall just want to poop on chairs. My daughter also really liked that the chihuahua was named DJ Funkyfoot for no apparent reason (he's neither a DJ nor funky-footed; he's a stiff, serious butler).
On a slightly more serious note, I liked that the fudge thief was redeemed in the end.

My kids loved the [b:Inspector Flytrap|26240679|Inspector Flytrap|Tom Angleberger|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1465698174l/26240679._SX50_.jpg|46232885] series on audio, so we picked up this one for me to read aloud. Inspector Flytrap and Nina the Goat do make a brief appearance, but the focus here is Koko Dodo. His super secret fudge sauce is missing and with Inspector Flytrap not answering his phone Koko is forced to rely on Didi Dodo and her daring plans. This is full of the slapstick humor we've come to love in the [b:Inspector Flytrap|26240679|Inspector Flytrap|Tom Angleberger|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1465698174l/26240679._SX50_.jpg|46232885] series, but it's not quite as engaging.

You know what they say... two birds are better than one! Didi and Koko are back for another adventure. When a nefarious baking robot moves into town, it's not just Koko's cookie shop in danger - soon the entire city is at stake! Enjoyed this story more than the first. I like how Didi balances wanting to become an amazing spy with wanting to do the right thing.

Set in the same universe as Inspector Flytrap, this new series follows aspiring spy bird Didi Dodo and her first client: cookie chef Koko Dodo. Still silly and fun, but less potty humor than the first series. I think this new series strikes a good balance and will be one both parents and kiddos enjoy reading together.

I grabbed an ARC of this at ALA. I’m not familiar with the series. It was silly enough, and I could see young kids enjoying it. I didn’t realize the author was Cece Bell’s husband.

I have a soft spot for children's titles that are cartoonishly illustrated. Captain Underpants and Diary of a Wimpy Kid are both series that I have adored over the years, even as an adult. Now, I have found a new series to enjoy with Didi Dodo, Future Spy. This is such an adorable read that both children and adults are bound to love. My only criticism is that some of the humor was a little one-note and repetitive, with funny phrases being repeated multiple times throughout the book, but this is probably more a reflection upon the fact that I am not the target audience of this read than a critique of the book as children will perceive it. Overall, I am eagerly awaiting future books in this series!
