Dead Florence is the most interesting character, holding together multiple narratives of family and friends united in a pact to keep her passing secret from her pregnant sister. The story is based on the author's family history, with the addition of a suitor who transfers his affections to another with unseemly haste. The lack of resolution from the sister's perspective was disappointing.
