What a beautiful debut! Florence Adler Swims Again begins with such a tragedy, and breaks your heart right away. It’s such a moving story, set in 1934 Atlantic City as we first meet Florence Adler who is training to swim the English Channel.

As time passes on after tragedy strikes, many secrets are revealed for the Adler Family.

This book captured my heart and I can feel a book hangover coming on after binge reading it. I just loved the writing, and felt so connected to each family member.

*many thanks to the publisher for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own

Oh boy. This book was very hard to finish. I LOVED the idea behind it and the storyline but it was slow going and in some ways infuriating.

Things I loved:
- each chapter was from a different character's perspective (ranging from a 7-year-old girl to a woman in her 60s)
- the setting - Atlantic City in the 1930s
- the author was super thorough in her descriptions of Jewish culture. I loved this so much.
- (NOT a spoiler since it's in the description) the entire book revolved around the death of a character (in the first chapter) and how the others reacted. I thought this was an interesting idea but I found the deceased character unlikeable
- I love that this was based on the authors family

Things I didn't love:
- Issac. HATED him
- There were a lot of loose ends and I felt like some of the story was disjointed and incomplete. Almost like trying to combine 3-4 books into one
- Slow read and didn't really feel like there was a plot
- I skipped 30 pages on accident (kindle mess up) and I didn't even notice. Feel like that isn't good.

I do think there is a wonderful set up for a 2nd novel. As a debut novel, I think the author did a great job in many areas.

I had a bit of a hard time getting into this one at first. The story line just seemed so far fetched. But after discovering this was based on a true story it completely changed my view on the story and couldn’t imagine the heartbreak this family had to deal with.

After seeing the author on a Zoom book chat I was excited to read this book. It is creatively based on a true family story of hers which she also changed in several ways. I really enjoyed and also love the cover artwork.

I think this was my favorite work book club book ever. Just lovely. Also made me happy since it was based on a true story in the author’s family.

An excellent story. I think the one common thread of this story is what parents will do to protect their children whether right or wrong. A beautiful story.

A story of a multi-generational Jewish family dealing with tragedy, love, and treatment of Jews in America and abroad between the WWs. It was nice slice of culture and the time with interesting characters; I enjoyed reading this book. I did not love where it ended. However, how much to fault a novel if I wish it hadn't ended yet? I still recommend.

This book brings the realization that life is short and full of peril- we don't know what tomorrow will bring so take the opportunity to show your love and caring to all whenever possible. This family is dealing with hardships from every angle- but when all is said and done, they are still a family who can depend on each other.

I didn’t expect to like this book: I’m not a fan of books whose plots are perpetuated on lies & I’m also not usually a fan of third person multiple viewpoints but I liked this book. It was a little too focused on the “Atlantic City”-ness (like how much does naming all these avenues really add to the story?) but the characters were very well written. I found them multi-faceted & all the side plots really helped drive both the story & my feelings about the characters. However, I was almost wanting more at the end- the multiple viewpoints left some minor loose ends or discussions I wanted to hear the result of. And it also ended before the lie was revealed to Fannie which I can’t decide if I like or not. Nonetheless, an enjoyable read.
