Ugh, Goodbye, Again is super short but is such a bore and slog. The author writes a series of short thoughts on different parts of his life, but it is so repetitive: plants, anxiety, work, shallow philosophy, repeat. I feel for the author - he struggles with anxiety, and it seems hard. He puts work into it, but it still seems hard. But throwing out these scattered, sort of related semi-thoughts is both dull and not cohesive. It doesn't even feel like a book. The author describes his process for this book as him writing down a bunch of thoughts to try to deal with burnout, to try to take him away from work. Then he decides to turn this not-work into a book. This series of notes meant to take him away from work into work. Huh? Well, it reads like a bunch of random thoughts, exactly as it was created. So... success?

A nice, quick read. Personally, the essays and stories are hit or miss. A small handful read truly profound for me and put to words subconscious feelings and background experiences I never thought to articulate.

Aside from those few, there was a time in my life I know I would have appreciated more of Sun’s ponderings cover to cover. But as he shares, we each grow and move on. I’m grateful to encounter this Past Me again, reflect on how I’ve changed, and for this book to stand as a memorial of him.

Beautifully written and easy to read- I loved the flow and organization of his essays, and the anecdotes from his life connected to his passion for plants was both refreshing and nostalgic. This book represented all forms of reassurance that I have been looking for and reminded me of the significance of small moments in life.
