as is with any poetry collection, there will be pieces that pass me by & then there are those poems that grab me by the shoulders & shake me until my head rattles.
to me, NMTW ranks higher mostly because i've had such a close experience with it, seeing Sarah Kay (& Phil Kaye!) perform live & how it opened up the world of poetry to 16 y/o me. however, i think the themes here in ALDL are closer to my paper heart. i highlighted & bookmarked so many pages, but here are a couple of lines that broke me:
