I enjoyed the author's book Pretty in Punxsutawney so much, I couldn't wait to read this one. I thoroughly enjoyed this send up of the Freaky Friday movies! I thought it was interesting that the author chose to tell this from only one of the girl's perspectives, but it totally worked. In some ways, Ricki was the emotionally "healthier" one of the two (not entirely, but at least with regards to having the freedom to live her own life and make her own choices), and it made sense to process the story and Lana's life through her perspective.

I enjoyed how the author chose to deal with the anxiety parts of Lana's story - How Ricki woke up as Lana with that weight on her chest and didn't recognize it initially while Lana reveled in the freedom of being Ricki. I also liked that the girls' moms and their aunt were part of the resolution of the story. There's lots to love here about social media influencers, family, mental health and stress, romance, makeup, identity, etc.

Don't miss this YA treat!

Straight up, this made me want to dig out my old dvd of the Lindsey Lohan version of Freaky Friday. I also enjoyed that there was a reference to Wish Upon A Star which I used to watch on Disney Channel all the time. As for the merits of the book itself, I liked the nostalgic vibes it brought. The story is easy to follow. I did think that Ricki was kind of really rude to Lana just because they had different interests. However, I did find myself rooting for Ricki and Lana. This is a decent palate cleanser of a book, but I don’t really see myself re-reading or revisiting this story. Read my full review here Link goes live 5/21/2021
