OBSESSED is an understatement. I thought about this book all day at work when I couldn’t read it. Such an easy to follow and gorgeous book. Perfect amount of spice, twists, and fantasy.

Not up to the author's usual high-quality writing. The other books of hers were stellar... but this one reads like it was written by a horny teen. It's not well-thought-out, very simplistic, and I can see the end coming a mile away.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book right up until the literal very end when the action was cut off and it was suddenly a happy ending. This was a HUGE disappointment.

I've never experienced such a Thanos snap on my enjoyment of a book. This could have been amazing if the author had taken the time to actually flesh out the aftermath from the final sequences of action rather than abruptly tying a bow on everything.

Honestly, due to the abrupt ending, all character development, relations, and even the world building don't matter anymore.

And no, the epilogue made it even worse.

Oh my goodness, the way I devoured this book?? 😂 everyone who knows me, knows I love Meg’s sci-fi horror romance books but this one?? Oh man, I’m a goner, Rune spoke and I was done for tbh. His mere presence was enough for me to surrender all responsibilities to read this book. 🤪

In all honesty, I loved the subtle touch of world building. It felt really easy to follow the plot and storyline. The world building was easy to follow and political intrigue as well. I just loved the way everything just came together in the end, the last 100 pages literally had me on the edge of my seat. I could not put the book down! I neeeeeded to know what happened next. 😂😂

Absolutely love Rune, considering the sheltered life Elma had her naivety was the right amount. There was time I wanted to go into the book and shake her to listen but I think that’s a normal reaction…. I hope. Anyway, the way these two love?? Don’t hesitate to give a shot if you love Enemies to lovers because Meg wrote that trope so beautifully I was left in awe. Thank you for the emotional turmoil Meg, idk how I’m supposed to move on now. 🥹 Utterly obsessed and think this book is slept on.

This is a stand alone novel with little  world building - it’s a short book, around 350 pages. I think this novels main focus was on the couple. And it’s one thing that Meg Smitherman does well, she creates intriguing characters and awesome tension.

It’s not a 5 star for me simply due to pacing is off and some of reveals were too easy to guess. While you want foreshadowing, you don’t want your nose rubbed in it. I want some level of shock.

Just really boring
