Oh my god, that book was about as annoying as fasting. Such an interesting story told in such a dull, long stretched way.

I really had problems getting into the booknas it was neither novel nor non-fiction, but a strange combinatipn that just could not hold up.

I think maybe I am not the target audience of this author. I keep trying because he is so highly recommended, but have slogged through each book I have picked up. It’s always subject matter I’m interested in, and I can’t articulate exactly what it is that causes me so much trouble, but I just don’t find the writing enjoyable.
challenging dark sad tense slow-paced

Really interesting story, especially since I have recently relocated into the area. Well researched and written.

This book was really hard for me to decide between 3.5-4 stars, I simultaneously wanted more and less information. More information about the woman and their treatment and less information about the proceedings in the court. While all the information was interesting to me, the chapters in part 3 all blended together.

Olsen has done it again. He has written a remarkably detailed book showcasing the horrors of Dr Linda Hazzard and her many crimes/murders. Prior to this book, I had not heard of this "Doctor" nor the horror of her "treatments".
Olsen has done a very deep dive into this womans life, her crimes and those of her patients. This is not a book I will soon forget.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review, from Netgalley and the publisher.

The first part of the book really gripped me. I felt like I had to trudge through the parts about the trial and the epilogue was pretty long. Overall a good read and interesting story.

I just don't understand the convoluted time line. Things that were said in a previous chapter do not make sense later on. I did not finish this. It was interesting topic, but I was bored.

As always it is hard to really like a true crime book, but Gregg Olsen is an excellent writer. Very interesting history of the local area that makes me think twice everytime I pass the Burley-Olalla road.

You can't tease me with the promise of pits full of skulls, and the namedrop Belle Gunness, and then tell me a much less salacious story. This was a disappoinment and it dragged, which is a horrible thing to say about a book like this.
