The book does a really good at building the plot, but then the climax is a bit lackluster. I did like the humanity and reflective aspect of the characters; which is probably more the theme of the book.

The book is a little corny at times and doesn't reach the Tom Clancy bar in this genre. However, the fictional book is meant to raise questions about the future of warfare and America's ability to engage. The book is effective in raising these questions and letting the reader struggle with the disturbing possibility ahead for America's military as the game is changing, other nations are catching up and the historical fact that eventually a book war will once again happen.

Some key observations:
- India's role in this book is interesting and I believe India's current international leadership is well below their potential. They should be sought more aggressively as a key partner in the region.

- Russia, China and Iran are not going away and it's a real possibility that the three nations can align narrow interest to upset America's leadership in Eurasia.

- Ongoing issues in Ukraine and Hong Kong/Taiwan make the scenarios in the book all too real.
informative

I listened to this and dragged it out for awhile, so I lacked the continuity to really love this book. I like war books (especially Tom Clancy), but I couldn't bring myself to care what happened to any of these character. I did enjoy the NPR interview with the author included at the end of the book. He talks about millenials being a hero generation, which is quite different than I see it, but I hope that he is right!
